Appropriate time for breaster construction Generally, Breast reconstruction is possible for stages 0, 1 and 2 of breast cancer, and can be performed selectively in the case of stage 3 breast cancer.

• Stage 0

  Immediate reconstruction (in the case of coronary endothelial cancer corresponding to stage 0,
  simultaneous excision and reconstruction are possible)

• Stage 1,2 and 3

  Delayed reconstruction (reconstruction is possible after having observed progresses in anticancer
  and radiotherapy after excisioin)

Breast reconstruction method Breast reconstruction can be divided into the method of inserting implant and method of transplanting of autologous tissues.

01 Implant insertion

It is the method of replacing with implant after having distended skin by injecting saline solution following the insertion of tissue expander.

Tissue expander? It is a medical device used to distend the skin of breast tissues that looks similar to breast implant.
After having inserted it into the breast without filling it in with filler,
saline solution is injected over prescribed period of time to distend the skin.

• 

  Breast tissues are sufficient distended
  by injecting saline solution for 2~3 months
  after having inserted tissue expander.

• 

  Once the tissues are sufficiently distended,
  take the tissue expander out and
  replace it with implant.

• 

  Once the breast is formed normally
  after the Breast reconstruction,
  nipple and areola are also reconstructed.

  How long will it take to recover from Breast reconstruction?

  A.

  In the case of implant insertion surgery, it takes 2-3 months to distend skin with tissue expander and about 1 month of recovery period is necessary after the insertion of implant.
  Recovery is possible in about 1 month in the case of autologous tissue transplantation.

  How much scar will be left behind?

  A.

  

  Surgical scars will gradually thin out after about 3~4 months.

• Q3

  Which of the implant reconstruction and autologous tissue reconstruction
  would be better?

  A.

  There is no method that is unconditionally better.
  There is only the method that is more appropriate for you.
  Decide on the surgical method after having consulted medical specialist by thoroughly assessing the advantages and disadvantages of each method, and your conditions.

  	Implant insertion	Autologous tissue transplant
  Advantages	There is no formation of additional scar. Time taken for surgery is short (1 hour) and recovery is quick.	Surgery can be performed even if the skin condition is not good after radiotherapy. Can make the breast shape as you want.
  Disadvantage	In the event of having undergone radiotherapy, surgery may not be possible since the skin cannot be distended. It takes long time until implant replacement surgery since it is necessary to distend the skin tissues for 2~3 months after having inserted tissue expander.	It is a surgical procedure with very high level of difficulty since blood vessels need to be exfoliated and then reconnected afterwards. Time taken for surgery is long (2 hours) and there is risk of necrosis of transplanted tissues. Additional scars will be formed in the areas from which tissues were collected including abdomen, back and hip, etc.
