Regular breast examination is essential for
early detection of breast cancer!
Cause of manifestation of breast cancer
Similar to other cancers, there is nothing that has been clearly disclosed.Women with past family history of breast cancer among one’s mother or sister
Women who does not breastfeed
Women with mutation of genes related to breast cancer
Obese women after menopause
Women with past history of breast cancer
Women who consumes alcoholic beverage and animal fat excessively
Women for whom atypical cells were detected in breast biopsy
Women who took oral contraceptive pill for long time
Women who are stimulated by hormone for long time due to early start of menstruation or delayed menopause
Women who are currently undergoing or have been taking combined estrogen + progesterone hormone replacement therapy
Women who gave birth after the age of 30 years or no experience of childbirth
Women with past history of endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer and colorectal cancer
Since it is closely associated with pregnancy and menstruation, it can be presumed that it is related to female hormones.
Risk factors of breast cancer
Genetic factor
Those with family members with history of breast cancer among the parents or relatives of direct blood line or over 2 generations have high risk of breast cancer.
If the mother, sister or daughter has history of breast cancer, risk of manifestation of breast cancer increases by about 1.5~3 folds.
First menstruation and ovulation
It appears that the age of first menstruation and establishment of regular ovulation period is closely related to manifestation of breast cancer.
That is, if the age of first menstruation is delayed by 1 year, the risk of manifestation of breast cancer decreases by about 20%.
Generally, the prevalence rate of breast cancer increases as one ages until the time of menopause, reaching the peak in the 40’s and 50’s, and then decreases thereafter.
Past history of childbirth
Women with no past history of childbirth 1.4 times higher possibility of manifestation of in comparison to those with such experience.
Women who had their first child after the age of 30 years has possibility of manifestation that is 2~5 times higher than that of those who gave birth to their first child in their early 20’s.
Results of a study conducted on women in Korea displayed the trend of significant decrease in the prevalence rate of breast cancer for women with more extensive childbirth at the full term of pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Women after their menopause with experience of childbirth at full term of pregnancy displayed lower prevalence rate of breast cancer particularly if they had prolonged breastfeeding period for their first child.
Oral contraceptive pill
It has not be clearly disclosed whether administration of oral contraceptive pill increases the risk of breast cancer or not.
However according to numerous reports, it was disclosed that the risk of breast cancer can increase by 2~4 folds in accordance with the period of administration of oral contraceptive pill.
Benign breast disorders
It is known that non-proliferative benign breast disorder that is observed frequently among all the benign breast disorders does not increase the risk of breast cancer.
Therefore, although it was reported that fibrocystic disorder or fibroadenoma, etc. that occur frequently in women in their 20’s and 30’s has no trend of becoming malignant, breast cancer detected within fibroadenoma was reported intermittently in the recent years caused some controversies regarding such possibility.
In addition, Lump or diseases of thymus gland and past history of exposure to radiation also increase the risk of breast cancer.
Obesity Based on the study results in Korea, although body weight of pre-menopause women and breast cancer are not correlated, prevalence rate of breast cancer is increasing with increase in body weight of women after menopause.
Smoking and drinking
There is a report that drinking alcohol at the rate of 1~2 glasses a day slightly increases the prevalence rate of breast cancer, and the correlation is the highest in young women under the age of 30 years.
In particular, although it is reported that smoking women have higher prevalence rate of breast cancer in comparison to non-smoking women, the correlation between caffein intake and breast cancer is not clear.
Symptoms of breast cancer
If Lump palpated in the breast is cancer, one will be able to palpate hard and irregular lump that is not painful in general.
The most common symptom of breast cancer is
Lump that can be palpated.
However, since presence of Lump does not necessarily mean
it is breast cancer, it is desirable to undergo examination
by specialist at a breast clinic.
If interstitial fluid that looks like clear water is secreted,
this is not pathogenic.
In particular, secretion that are secreted only
if the nipple is squeezed are not problematic.
However, if secretion such as blood
(that flows out naturally without being squeezed) is excreted,
breast cancer could be suspected.
In many cases, changes in the skin including retraction of skin,
ulcer, Lump in armpit, etc.
manifested as cancer progresses are the results
of substantial progression of breast cancer.
Accordingly, you must undergo precision examination
as soon as possible.
Treatment of breast cancer
Full remission rate of breast cancer is high if treated in its initial stage.Partial mastectomy
Total mastectomy
Other methods
Execution of adjuvant therapy for prevention of recurrence after the surgery
Anticancer chemotherapy
Radiotherapy
Hormone therapy
